Literacy knowledge encompasses students’ general knowledge of literacy (Scarborough, 2001). This includes concepts of print, such as 1:1 correspondence, understanding of letters and words, print tracking, and spaces. It can also include more general literacy knowledge, such as understanding of genres and their unique characteristics, including text structures (Hebert et al., 2016).
