Literacy Engagement Action Project

How Do Communities Get Involved?

Are you interested in building literacy engagement and awareness in your community? Here are some evidence-based ways that LEAP can support your efforts!

  • Work with us to develop on-site tutoring for students. We are currently working with communities to develop tutoring programs. We provide tutor training and bi-weekly session plans to support elementary and middle-school student literacy development. We also offer support to recruit and retain adult tutors in your community.
  • Host a Community Book Bin. Similar to a Little Free Library, we will provide a supply of picture books on a variety of themes and topics to encourage reading in your community. Each book is accompanied by an interactive reading guide to support active engagement and book-related conversation during reading.
  • Host a Community Workshop. LEAP team members will work with you to develop a topic-based family workshop to support K-12 literacy engagement.
  • Develop Community Partnerships. Partner with LEAP by hosting a literacy workshop sponsored by your organization, and we’ll highlight your support on our Partnerships page.
  • Promote Online Literacy Resources. Access a wide range of free family resources on the LEAP website. Explore interactive reading guides, family literacy videos, clear definitions of skilled reading elements, and more – all designed to support family literacy at home.
